This building was closed to access by nosey tourists like myself. (As were most of the other buildings.) In any case, the soldier standing guard did not point his weapon at me when I too these photos. In Brazil, even the soldiers on guard seem kinda friendly.
News Test
So if I don’t add images this will populate the news box? Testing!
Ah! so if I don’t use the category displayed in the carosel it displays in the news.
Brasil’s National Congress – Brasilia
Iconic. Nothing says Brasilia more than this, well, except for Oscar Niemeyer’s Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady Aparecida. I wish I had had more time to get better shots. A storm was barreling down and in this town there is nowhere to duck into to get out of the “chuva do verĂ£o” (summer rain).
Ministries Esplanade Brasilia
These are the government buildings that line the main thoroughfare. The Cathedral, National Museum, Natitonal Library and National Theater are located on the “city” end of these, with the National Congress, Ministry of Justice, Supreme Court and the Praca dos Tres Poderes on the other end. There is a mirroring set of buildings on the opposite side of the boulevard. They do remind one of post war apartment blocks in “East” Berlin. At least they remind this one of those. Better weather though.
The second image below isn’t really part of the Esplanade, down the road from them though, and near the National Congress. This one is a mystery. Should you know what this building is, please comment. Thank you!
Ministry of Justice – Brasilia
Across and down the Ministries Esplanade stands the Ministry of Justice building. The amazing concept and realization of waterfalls off the building and into the ‘moat’ is poetic.
National Museum – Brasilia
This building looks like a UFO or a sculpture of Saturn w/ a partial ring. Another Niemeyer creation. This museum stands next to the Cathedral between the rodovaria and the Ministries Esplanade that lead to the National Congress.
